Agnus Unawatuna

We’ve just returned from a second, 2 week trip to Sri Lanka & spent 6 of those days at the wonderful boutique Agnus Hotel. Our room was clean, well equipped & comfortable, the hot water does take a bit of forethought though. The food was great especially if you eat from the Sri Lankan section of the menu. They do drinks very well, be aware there’s an inclusive 10% service charge included. The hotel provides a free Tuk Tuk service to Jungle Beach which includes a beach towel & a bottle of water. The roof top bar, balcony & pool give uninterrupted views of the bay & has ample seating & very comfortable sun beds with cushions & towels. The small retinue of staff though are off the chart, I cannot praise them highly enough. Front of house, poolside, housekeeping, waiting on & reception staff where incredible & that in itself is worth a return visit alone. The hotel is on a hillside, which is a tuk tuk ride away from everything. This wasn't an issue for us as it meant it was quiet and peaceful at night and we could get a proper sleep. The tuk tuk into Unawatuna is less than £3 and to Galle less than £5 so definitely worth the effort. The staff are extremely friendly and the pool area is lovely with chillout music playing in the background. The food variety is very good and the kottu roti was a particular favourite of mine.

Excellent location out of the hectic Unawatuna and away from the busy centre of Galle. We had a scooter and could get to the old fort in 15 mins and Unawatuna in about 10. If you don't have your own transport this could be an issue. Otherwise staff were great...Ranjith the manager on the front desk is always happy to help with info and entertaining stories. Food was good. SriLankan Breakfast recommended. Rooftop was great to check the view and to have a dip. Very peaceful up there with a nice breeze too. The room was really well appointed and cleaned to a high standard. We stayed in August, price was very reasonable for the quality we received.

Exceptional facilities and view! Lovely sized room, balcony overlooking the water towards Galle Fort, big bathroom. The staff were super friendly and accomodating. The pool was a highlight, perfect place to cool down on hot days. The hotel offers free tuk tuk rides to Jungle Beach which is on the same road. There isn’t much else around the area that you can walk to, but Galle Fort and Unawatuna are a short tuk tuk drive away. Only 15 rooms in the whole hotel, so it’s nice and quiet!

From the moment you arrive, you are captivated by the breathtaking ocean views. The rooms are spacious, modern and stunning balconies overlooking the sea. The highlight of the hotel is the rooftop infinity pool, where you can enjoy a spectacular sunset. The restaurant offers delicious meals. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, offering a free tuk-tuk service to nearby beaches like Jungle Beach and White Sand Beach. Big thanks to Chaminda for the best service.
